COUPLES COUNSELING
What problems can you help us with?
Many couples need help with building back trust, sexual and emotional intimacy challenges, and co -parenting issues. Other issues presented in session include financial decision making, setting boundaries with extended family and others, and understanding cultural and religious differences. Sometimes couples need help coping with being new parents, adjusting to children leaving home, and adjusting to adult children returning home.
I also work with caregiving challenges, division of household duties, AND helping you stop fighting about the same thing over and over. Contact me to see if I can help you.
What strategies do you use with couples ?
My techniques are largely based on successful interventions used by Jon Gottman, Terry Real, Esther Perel, and John Bradshaw. Fairly quickly, and as a team, we hone in on what works, what doesn’t work, and what needs to happen for positive changes to occur. I teach couples strategies useful both in the short term, and in the long term. Research studies show that couples counseling is effective in the short run. It is common, however for couples to return to old patterns once they stop using the techniques learned in therapy. Many of my long term clients schedule ‘tune up’ sessions when they notice old patterns resurfacing. These couples have an especially good success rate.
